Both Angela and Shannon have shown exceptional love and dedication to animals. Angela lives on a large property looking after her horses, chickens, ducks, parrots, dogs, cats a bunny and even a snake. She has taken in many unwanted pets over the years and shown them a better life. Shannon’s passion for animals started at a young age with her pony Pumkin & joining Kangaroo Ground pony club. Since then she has dogs, cats, Guinea pigs, rats and a pet Ferret named Monkey. In advocating for animal welfare they came up with a plan to end traumatic trips to a dog grooming salon and create a positive experience for all our four legged friends in their mobile dog grooming bus.
Lucinda has been working within the animal industry for over ten years. She has extensive experience taking care of a wide variety of animals such as dogs and snakes and even Lions and Crocodiles. She has also worked in doggie daycare and currently provides a dog sitting and walking service as well as behavior modification at Barkbus. She has worked with a wide variety of dog breeds and is passionate about providing fun and enriching environments for all our furry friends.

When should puppies be groomed?
Visiting a groomer can be a traumatic experience for a dog. The loud and unfamiliar sounds of dryers and clippers can be overwhelming. Standing still being touched all over can be tiring. We recommend starting to groom puppies between 3 and 4 months. After 4 months the process of desensitizing a puppy to grooming and making it an enjoyable experience is difficult and takes a lot of time and patience.
We don't have set times for puppy grooming, we like to let puppies decided when they have had enough. As a guide we will spend between 30 minutes and a maximum of 90 minutes grooming a puppy. We start with introducing ourselves and the Barkbus with a good sniff around. The groom starts with brushing and combing and an attempt nail clipping. Then a nice warm bath with a Blueberry facial. We move on to a good towel dry then onto the specifically designed grooming table. There we will introduce them to the high velocity drier on the most gentle setting. They are given treats and praise when they accept the air flow on their body. Once they are dry (or close too), we introduce the clippers in the same way. Then the scissors around the face and paw pads which is the most difficult to get them use to. By the end of the groom we usually see them use to the drier and the clippers. Your puppy won't be going home with a proper designer groom but will be clean, dry and well on their way to being a super model!

Our philosophy
There was and still is an old approach to grooming. However we at Barkbus go by a new approach. For years groomers have followed the philosophy of alpha training, meaning dogs where and are forced through grooming. The customer (the owner of the dog) gets what the customer wants by almost any means. Dogs where muzzled, held down by multiple people, yelled at, aggressively restrained to get the task completed and keep the customer happy at the dogs expense. This method got the job done while also traumatizing our pets.
Times have changed and dogs aren't merely pets anymore, they are mans best friend! We know better now. We care what food they eat, we care if they are hurt, scared or happy. The future of grooming is here with Barkbus.
The Barkbus grooming philosophy is about having a trustful bond between ourselves and your pet.
Our method doesn't worry if the job doesn't get done to completion. Instead we help your dog
build confidence and a sense of safety. Which includes warning your pet that a load noise is about
to occur, such as the high velocity dryer. Being gentle and patient, giving affection and breaks,
giving them lots of rewards and bringing them back to calm before we proceed. This approach is
kind and helps them be calm, comfortable and cooperative and inevitably actually enjoying the
grooming process. Every single task might not be completed during their first few grooms, but
with practice they will eventually become an amazing grooming dog. This approach translates
into a less anxious dog, better vet visits, a safe experience and in my opinion the only way a dog
should be treated, with love, empathy and compassion.
